Home Plainfield Athletic Club

So you may be wondering - Who is responsible for getting the fields ready for the kids to play baseball and softball in Plainfield?  Is it the Park District?  Is it a paid crew of professionals?  No - it's volunteers.  Parents, coaches, commissioners, and board members from PAC get the fields ready.  It was a rainy night last night so we knew there would be some work to do.  A few of the people were out as early as 6:30 AM to get started.  While it may be expected that the coach shows up before the game - many of these people may not even have a game until 3PM in the afternoon.  They are here helping to get the girls the playing time that they are hoping for.

It seems that the board does a lot of work too.  Outside of handing the administrative tasks associated with a league with thousands of players, they are also on hand when needed to get the fields ready.  Shawn Chelius can regularly be seen out early, early getting supplies where they need to go and handling all sorts of problems.  Dan Deacon from softball putting in a lot of time dragging the fields on days like today as well.  Dan's become known for driving the tractor - checkout the video to get an idea of what the smallest field in Four Seasons takes to get ready!

Does this look like fun?  Give it a try - any time there is rain the night before a game the fields need help before our kids can play.  Every bit of help is appreciated, even if you do not know what to do now!  We all started out not really knowing how to help but just starting small.  Maybe you can help smooth out the field with a rake, or help carry some field dry.  Maybe you can help draw the foul lines.  Your coaches (and the kids) will appreciate any help that you can give.
